Time: & Other Things That Aren't Enough

Free Verse Poem by J. Iner Souster

Certain things, like time,
are never enough. This question
strikes at the heart of anguish
yet it escapes the prying lenses
of forever, longing for it to end.
We continue to leave
ourselves open, reinforcing
the painful implications
as the weary flow of time fills the abyss
The vast expanse of ages
courses like water
as we sail away in defeat. For every moment,
we stare out, complacent
our life drifts past in hopelessness,
yet we do not close our eyes. Pale rays
burst through the veil of thin smoke,
searching for a quiet place
to rest in peace.
