What She's Having

Flash Fiction by Phillip Temples

The woman received a phone call from an unknown number. Still, she answered it.  Upon saying “Hello,” the party on the other end responded with, “It’ll be done tonight.”

“Uh. That’s nice. I think.” The tone of her voice telegraphed her bewilderment.

“You know—the thing. Your husband. Kaput. Per our little agreement.”

The woman was still perplexed.

“Oh. This ain’t . . . Rebecca Cantrone?”

“No, I’m afraid it isn’t. But if you don’t mind me asking—what are you charging Mrs. Cantrone for your services?  If it’s not terribly expensive, I’ll have what she’s having.”
