humpty dumpty is back

Free Verse Poem by Persis R Singh

as it is—
she only has time
for herself now,
for her wellbeing
and fulfilment.

as it was—
she only had time for others,
family,
for their wellbeing
and satisfaction.

she held onto so little
of herself—
and everything of them.

it took a while for her to become
still.
so all her pieces could float back,
so she could hold onto
all of herself.

Persis R Singh is a pseudonymous Fiji-born writer. ’No Crying Aloud,’ her first book of poems, was snapped up by a university press a decade ago. Fearful of family backlash, the author decided against publishing at that time.
