Author Chapbook Submission

Submission Guidelines

Content Guidelines: We welcome a wide range of topics and themes for submission. However, please note that we do not accept sexually explicit or inappropriate content. If we find a piece unsuitable for our publication based on these criteria, we will promptly inform you.

Accepted Genres: At this time, we are open to submissions in the following genres: poetry, short stories, and hybrid chapbooks. Please note that we cannot accept submissions with experimental formatting.

Page Count and Document Format: Submissions should have a page count between 20 to 50 pages and must be in either Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) format.

Font, Spacing, and Margins: Use a standard, easily readable font like Times New Roman or Arial in 12-point size. Set your document with standard line spacing (usually 1.25 to 1.5) to ensure readability, and maintain standard margins of 1 inch (2.54 cm) on all sides of the document.

Table of Contents: Please include a table of contents that lists the titles of your poems or stories along with their corresponding page numbers.

Page Breaks: Each new story or poem should start on a new page.

Title and Author Name: The title of your chapbook and your author name should appear on the first page of the document.

Publication Platform and E-book Royalties: Selected chapbooks will be published through Draft2Digital and Amazon. Authors are required to create an account on Draft2Digital for e-book royalty distribution. Authors will receive an agreed-upon percentage of e-book chapbook profits through Draft2Digital, not to exceed 50%, which will be confirmed via email upon acceptance.

Print Sales: Currently, we do not have a royalty mechanism in place for print sales on Amazon. However, we are actively exploring alternative options for print sales royalties.

Proof Review: Before publishing, we will provide authors with a digital proof copy of their chapbook for review. This allows authors to ensure the final product meets their expectations and make any necessary revisions.

Originality and Publication: All submitted work must be original, written by you, and unpublished. No A.I.-derived work of any kind is allowed.

Author Support Package: Written Tales provides author support, including basic formatting, simple editing, basic cover art creation (at no charge), and offers the e-book to our paid subscribers. It’s important to note that this support package does not include royalties. Additionally, the selected author receives a 20% discount coupon for our subscriptions, granting access to all content on writtentales.substack.com, including past, current, and future e-ChapBooks made available to the Written Tales community.

By submitting to Written Tales, you grant us first publication and non-exclusive rights, while retaining ownership of your work. First publication rights give us a 30-day exclusivity period, during which your work is not published elsewhere.
