Submission Guidelines

Chapbook Series — Open Call Submissions

We’re accepting original poems, short fiction, and short nonfiction for an upcoming Written Tales Chapbook / eBook. Selections are made on a rolling basis – we close once we select 15 pieces.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Poetry (any form)
  • Short Fiction or Creative Non-Fiction (1,500 words max)
  • Original, unpublished work only.
  • No simultaneous submissions.
  • No reprints.
  • No AI-generated content.

Submission Guidelines

  • One (1) piece per submission
  • Maximum four (4) total submissions per open call
  • Submissions must be proofread and free of spelling or grammar errors
  • Work must be properly formatted with paragraph breaks
  • Include your name or pen name, a third-person bio, and website in the form
    (Submissions missing required author information will not be considered.)

Please note: Submissions that do not follow these guidelines may be declined without consideration. Simultaneous submissions will result in disqualification from future calls.

Rolling Acceptance

Submissions are reviewed as they arrive.

Once 15 pieces are selected, submissions will close without notice.

If You’re Selected

  • Your work appears in the chapbook / ebook
    (Pieces are not published individually on the site)
  • Contributors receive a 75% discount on the digital chapbook only
    (Free Download for paid members)
  • By submitting, you agree that accepted work will not be withdrawn.

Up to four submissions per author are permitted. One piece per submission. Do not paste multiple works.

Please add two line breaks between each paragraph. 1,500 Words Max.

📜 Submission Terms

By clicking yes, you agree when submitting to Written Tales, you are granting us first publication and Combined Non-Exclusive Rights (including Worldwide Rights), but you, the writer, still own your work. The copyright always remains with the author. First publication rights grant us a 30-day period wherein the work is not published elsewhere. Non-Exclusive rights allow us to publish your wonderful work on our online platforms, social media channels, audio, digital, and/or print publications, promotional materials (audio, digital, and/or print), and archives to help further promote your work and the Written Tales writers.
