I Always Thought I’d See You Again

Poem by Dawn Colclasure

It’s easy to let time pass us by.
It’s easy to get caught up in things.
What isn’t easy is getting the news that you died
And coping with the sadness it brings.

How very short our lives can be.
How so fleeting life is in these days.
We think we have all the time in the world
And that we’ll be around for unlimited days.

That’s why you and I lost touch over time,
Thinking we could always catch up someday.
But that day never came and now you’re gone.
And now you’ll never get to hear what I have to say.

I always thought I’d see you again
At some time or another, in some way.
But that never happened and it won’t happen now
Because now you have gone away.

I always thought I’d see you again.
That someday our paths would once again cross.
But now that won’t happen because you have left this world
And now I must live with this loss.
