Born in Portsmouth, Virginia, and raised in Henderson, North Carolina, Rene McKeel’s upbringing was marked by both typical and atypical experiences as a latchkey kid. Overcoming severe neglect and abuse, Rene channels past and present pain into heartfelt writing.
