Fences

Fences

Poem by Jaden Pierce

Who in the hell invented fences?
They encage one like an animal.
I cut my finger once trying to climb one
Acting as a barrier of separation,
Don’t cross this line or else.
Doesn’t matter what the fuck they’re made of:
Metal, wood, or tinfoil
All serving the same purpose
Like three blind mice looking for a knife,
I ought to tear down a fence.
Kick it down with my shoe —
One too damn tall to climb.
That would make for some excitement.
Imagine a world without fences.
Then one could really be free.
