Harmony with Myself & the World

Poem by Denise Landry

Most days I live in peace with my disabled body.
Every day I wake sore and tight but I find calm
Within myself to relax my spastic body
Then I can do whatever I want
And face the world happily,

Although the world sometimes
Makes it difficult, less harmonious.
It puts barriers, physical and mental
Between it and me out of fear and pity
Of my odd moving body and chair.

I again find calm within myself
And use it to tear down the barriers.
See peace and serenity and find beauty in everything, everyone
And let everyone see the beauty and joy in me
As I go on living in harmony with myself and the world.
