Like Crackers Cra-crackity-crack

Poem by Tami Darlene

(i.e., British Christmas Crackers)

Cra-Cra-crackity-crack
Cra-Cra-crackity-crack
Cra-Cra-crackity-crack
Cra-Cra-crackity-crack

A mother and a lover
A young man with rag-doll limbs
They’re tugging at his sweater
The last remains of him

Silence on a Tuesday
Evin’ disrupted by the tap
RAP-TAPP that is suspect
A visitor at their doorstep

Word of the loss came in like
            Crackers -- crack
As if they’driven into that tree
Jolted at the crushing
Corrugated like his body

His head lie rest’on the dashboard
He just needed some sleep
He’s resting in a box now
Dreamin’ Technicolor Dreams

How I wish he had insisted
That day to take a nap
So I wouldn’t be singin’ songs ‘bout
The mem’ry of a boy named Dan
(Silence)
Shhhhhhh . . .

Cra-Cra-crackity-crack
Cra-Cra-crackity-crack
Cra-Cra-crackity-crack
Cra-Cra-crackity-crack
