Ode to the Desert Onion

Poem by Evie Groch

sun kissed head of lemony gold
on dense body of solid green,
two feet high with shallow roots,

You stand tall
in the AmuDarya Desert of Uzbekistan,
inedible, incredible, unforgettable,
posing for attention from nomads
on what was once the Silk Road.
