By the River

Poem by Thompson Emate

“I shall be like a tree planted by the river…”

Psalms 1:3

Flourishing forever and fruitful in every season,
Lustrous leaves and blossoming boughs,
Standing satiated and sure in the severity of drought,
Uptake of nutrients to nurture and uphold.

Still standing in pursuit of purpose,
Time travels and the tide changes,
Everything is in enormous supply for efficiency,
Wondrous ways dwell in the deep.

The river runs rapidly during the rains,
A marvellous magnificent moment in twilight,
The stillness in summer salvages saddened hearts,
A cool ambience cradles and comforts.

Thompson Emate spends his leisure time on creative writing, particularly poetry and prose. He has a deep love for nature and the arts. His poems can be seen in Poetry Potion, Poetry Soup, Visual Verse, Writers Space Africa magazine and others. He lives in Lagos, Nigeria.
